They’re meant to help people with disabilities to live more independently by funding special adaptations to their homes – like wheelchair ramps, stairlifts or accessible bathrooms.

And Disabled facilities grants are supposed to be available within a few months. But for many people they can mean years of delays. And with local councils increasingly strapped for cash, waiting lists are getting longer.
