Students from school in Billericay take part in iconic London Mini Marathon

Young runners from Billericay have participated in the iconic London Marathon’s mini race.
The TCS Mini London Marathon offers youngsters a unique chance to cross the London Marathon finish line and earn a medal.
School kids had the option to run, jog, walk or wheel a mile or 2.6k, depending on their age, in the heart of London, beginning at Horse Guards Parade and ending at The Mall.
Fifteen students, from Year 7 to 10 at Mayflower High School, in Billericay, were invited to participate, with one student placing third.
Year 10’s Max Langshaw finished the race in nine minutes and 42 seconds, outperforming hundreds in the school’s wave.
PE teacher Dave Close, a marathon finisher himself, said: “This is the first time we have taken students to take part in the Mini London Marathon.
“The London Marathon is a phenomenal event and to be able to take part in that at this age is such an honour for them.
“We hope by taking part now, it inspires them to potentially look into taking on the London Marathon in future.”
