RCMP investigating suspicious death at Piapot First Nation

A 30-year-old woman was found dead at Piapot First Nation on Thursday morning, and Saskatchewan RCMP are investigating.

Shortly after 8 a.m., Southey RCMP received a report about an injured woman inside a home.

Officers “immediately responded” and found the body of Melanie Asham-Obey, of Pasqua First Nation, RCMP said in a Friday news release. Her family has been notified.

Major Crimes officers have taken charge of the investigation, as they believe her death is “suspicious in nature,” the release said.

The investigation is ongoing. RCMP said people can expect to see more police officers than usual at Piapot First Nation “for an indeterminate amount of time.”
